It is reported that smoke was observed coming from open forward hatches in the vessel, by a neighboring vessel.
The origin of the fire appeared to be the port aft cabin, in the vicinity of the 1,500 W inverter and what appeared to be a damaged lithium-ion battery.
DESCRIPTION OF DAMAGES:
The vessel suffered extensive smoke, and heat damage that extended from the port aft cabin throughout the port hull. All fabric and fittings were melted and the underside of the deck was heavily damaged in the port hull. The central main salon suffered heat and smoke damage, consuming the overhead fabric materials, similar damage occurred in the starboard hull cabins.
Inspections of the port aft cabin in an area that was under the berth revealed three lithium-ion batteries and battery charge controllers, along with two-engine start batteries, all were observed to be virtually undamaged except for heat and smoke.
Extensive damage was visible on the forward face of the battery locker where a 1500 W inverter Max power inverter was mounted. The inverter suffered extensive damage. Heat from the fire burned away the resin from the underside of the carbon fiber reinforced deck laminates on the port hull. Approximately ¾ of the length of the port hull deck was found to be structurally unstable due to heat damage.
Forward hatches were observed to have been broken by the fire fighters. Damages observed are commensurate with an incident of fire originating at the inverter in the port aft cabin. Additional damages could be discovered during the course of disassembles, repairs and sea trials.
